Green Triangle Region Freight Action Plan

The Green Triangle region is one of Australia’s most important export regions and is expected to experience significant growth in trade volumes over the next five years.


Overview

The Green Triangle Region Freight Action Plan sets out a package of road, rail and other freight priorities required to ensure the region is able to cope with massive growth in export trade.

The plan has been developed by the Victorian and South Australian Governments in close consultation with stakeholders including the timber industry, local government and the Port of Portland.

It outlines actions in six areas:
  • road network enhancements
  • rail network enhancements
  • regulatory reform
  • job opportunities skills and training
  • socio-economic and
  • community development.

An immediate priority of the Green Triangle Region Freight Action Plan will be a trial of Higher Productivity Freight Vehicles.

The plan also identifies priority road upgrades including:
  • Princes Highway from Heywood to Mt Gambier through to Millicent and beyond
  • Riddoch Highway from Mt Gambier to Penola, including the bypass of Penola
  • Henty Highway between Heywood and Hamilton
  • Portland Ring Road.
