Portfolio responsibilities
As Minister for Roads and Ports, Mr Pallas oversees Victoria's extensive roads network, road safety initiatives, our world-class ports and the implementation of
The Victorian Transport Plan. He also has responsibility for logistics and marine issues.
The Minister is the Victorian representative on the Australian Transport Council – the peak body for Commonwealth, State, Territory and New Zealand Governments to coordinate and integrate transport and road policy issues.
Personal profile
Minister Pallas, Member for Tarneit, has taken up the new portfolio of Roads and Ports in the Victorian State Government. Before his election to Parliament, he was Chief of Staff to the Premier of Victoria, a position he held since October 1999 (after serving as Chief of Staff during Premier Bracks’ period as Leader of Opposition from March to October 1999).
Minister Pallas has also worked across a number of senior roles within the trade union movement, including Assistant Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). He previously worked in the Federated Storeman and Packers Union and its successor organisation, the National Union of Workers, as an Assistant General Secretary. He also served as the National Industrial Officer at the Federal Firefighters Union.
