Transport Demand Information Atlas for Victoria

Understanding the demand for transport services, and the related pattern of settlement and employment, is vital for transport policy makers and planners.

The Department of Transport seeks to ensure that transport assets are managed and used optimally and that additions to transport infrastructure are made when and where they produce the highest benefits.

The Transport Demand Information Atlas (TDIA) seeks to compile reliable and recent data relating to key aspects of the passenger and freight tasks. It uses Census data, other data published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, survey data commissioned by the Department of Transport, and time use analysis by Melbourne University economists.

The department hopes that the Transport Demand Information Atlas will contribute to transport policy making and planning, and to public discussion of transport issues.
