Victorian Integrated Survey of Travel and Activity
The 2007 Victorian Integrated Survey of Travel and Activity (VISTA 07) contains travel diary information from households in Melbourne, Geelong, and the regional centres of Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and Latrobe.

VISTA 07 consisted of a detailed one-day travel diary, completed by all members of participating households. Different households were surveyed on different days of the year - with all days of the year covered - allowing seasonal changes in travel behaviour to be identified.
The survey ran from April 2007 through to June 2008 and included 11,400 households in Metropolitan Melbourne, 1,270 households in Greater Geelong and 4,400 households in regional areas (from Greater Shepparton, Greater Bendigo, Ballarat and Latrobe).
By recording all personal travel made outside of the home, from walking the dog to a trip interstate, VISTA 07 provides an accurate picture of the complex travel interactions that are occurring every day across our communities.
Results from the survey will be critical in ensuring that transport and land-use planning decisions are reflective of the actual travel behaviour of Victorians. To understand travel trends over time, a second round of data collection will be initiated in late 2009.
Data summary documents will be available publicly from this website by mid-2009, and an online analysis tool is also under development.
VISTA 07 was undertaken on behalf of the Department of Transport by the Urban Transport Institute and I-View Pty Ltd. All information collected through VISTA 07 is treated confidentially.
Results are aggregated to provide an overview of daily travel across a region, and all personal contact information is deleted from survey records prior to their release for transport planning purposes. No name, address or contact information of VISTA 07 participants is kept by the Department.
