Metropolitan station upgrades
The
2009-10 State Budget has allocated $11.4 million for metropolitan train station upgrades, including better customer amenities, walkways, drop-off areas, taxi zones and improved bus to train connections, as outlined in the
Victorian Transport Plan.
Broadmeadows Station
- upgrade works are underway to improve passenger movement amenities and security
Cranbourne Station
Deer Park Station
- will undergo a $5 million facelift with nearly 80 new car parks, improved lighting and signage, Closed Circuit Television and improved accessibility.
Ferntree Gully Station
- work underway to upgrade the station to premium status
Flinders Street Station
- undergoing a $10 million upgrade to improve access around the station and its visual appeal. See the Flinders Street Station page.
Footscray Station
- a new footbridge will be built as part of the $52.1 million Footscray Renewal Program to revitalise Footscray. Footscray is identified as a Central Activities District in The Victorian Transport Plan.
Frankston Station
- upgrade works are underway to improve passenger movement amenities and security
Noble Park Station
- work underway to upgrade the station to premium status
North Melbourne Station
Prahran Station
- works will improve the passenger experience at the station while respecting its heritage status.
Windsor Station
- works will improve the passenger experience at the station while respecting its heritage status.
New stations
Under The Victorian Transport Plan, new stations will be built at:
Bike cages
Parkiteer bike cages have been installed at stations across metropolitan Melbourne.
Park and ride facilities
Park and ride facilities allow motorists to avoid lengthy traffic delays by leaving their car at a carpark and use trains, trams or buses to travel across suburbs or into the city.
The Government has allocated $60 million in The Victorian Transport Plan over the next four years for an expansion of
Park & Ride facilities.
Additional parking will be added at these stations:

Train Stations as Creative Community Hubs pilot project
Laverton, North Shore (Geelong) and Mooroolbark stations have been selected for the
Train Stations as Creative Community Hubs pilot project. The project aims to transform train stations into more attractive and safer public spaces through community involvement.
