Background

The Government has allocated $5 million from the Moving Forward provincial statement for the construction of the park and ride facilities.

The project aims to encourage more people to leave behind their cars and travel by train into Melbourne, in turn, reducing congestion on major arterial roads.

Sites for the Parkways were chosen based on a combination of the following:
  • proximity of the station to a major highway or freeway
  • availability of land for car parking
  • existing facilities at the station
  • frequency of existing train services at the station
  • proximity of the station to residential and/or shopping areas
  • potential number of passengers that will have access to the station
  • competitiveness of rail travel times from the station into the metropolitan area in comparison to both current and future car travel times.
