Overview of the Department

The Department of Transport is delivering The Victorian Transport Plan and provides support to two ministers and their portfolio areas, the Minister for Public Transport and the Minister for Roads and Ports.

Our mission is to build a safer, fairer and greener transport system for all Victorians - creating a more prosperous and connected community.

Our divisions, in partnership with stakeholders and the community:

• oversee Victoria's transport systems, including train, tram, bus and taxi services through franchised arrangements with the private sector
• deliver infrastructure projects to the Victorian community from concept to completion
• ensure the efficient movement of freight on Victoria's roads, rail and ports systems
• ensure Victorian infrastructure is safer and more secure.

We deliver a range of projects and programs. Some of them are large and complex infrastructure projects which will benefit all Victorians.

We also develop integrated strategies, plans and policies for infrastructure and transport services that will deliver the Victorian Government's infrastructure objectives and targets.
