Suggested resume format

When applying for a job at the Department of Transport, we suggest the following format for your resume.

Personal details

  • Your name, address and up to date contact details.

Education/Qualifications

  • Relevant educational qualifications and achievements beginning with the highest level obtained.
  • Details should include the course name, the institution you attended and the year you graduated.

Career profile

  • An overview that highlights your relevant work experience, skills and expertise.

Employment history

  • In chronological order, beginning with the most recent, provide the following details:
  • Period of employment: (start and end date showing month and year);
  • Name of Employer;
  • Role: (Job Title);
  • Responsibilities: (no more than 6-8 dot points for each role); and
  • Achievements: (1 or 2 for each role).

Extra curricular activities/Interests

  • Your “out-of-hours” activities and interests, such as community involvement and voluntary positions.
  • This information gives an insight into your personal qualities and values and help us assess your suitability against the Departmental culture and values.

References

  • Include details of two referees including your current supervisor and previous supervisor.
  • If you cannot provide your current supervisor as referee, include the name of a suitable manager at your current workplace, who can comment on your work output. Return to the Applying for a job at the Department of Transport page.
