Employment programs

The Department of Transport (DOT) offers several employment programs. They are:

Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme (GRDS)

The Victorian Public Service (VPS) graduate program is run by the State Services Authority and offers placements for graduates in disciplines such as Policy, Public Affairs, Law, Accounting Human Resources and Finance. Under the VPS graduate scheme, graduates are offered a unique opportunity to learn about Government and contribute to a range of initiatives.

DOT Rail Engineering Graduate Program

The Department of Transport, in conjunction with VicRoads, offers rail engineering graduates the opportunity to experience transport related engineering projects within DOT and VicRoads over an 18 month period.

Engineering Vacation Work Program

DOT offers summer vacation employment of approximately 12 weeks to civil, electrical and mechanical engineering students. Please contact the Employment Programs Coordinator on (03) 9655 6747 for more information.

Aboriginal employment at DOT

The Department of Transport has a strong commitment to Aboriginal employment. The new whole of government Aboriginal Employment Strategy, Kareeta Yiramboi, is strongly focused on establishing pathways for Aboriginal people to enter and progress their careers in the department and across the transport portfolio.

Victoriaworks for Young People (formerly the Youth Employment Scheme)

Victoriaworks for Young People offers people, aged 15 to 24 years, traineeships in the Victorian Government. The scheme provides paid work experience while allowing participants to gain a qualification hopefully kick starting their career. Work Experience

DOT offers one or two week work experience placements for students in Years 9 and 10. For more information, please email the Work Experience Coordinator.
