Department of Transport Disability Action Plan 2009-2012

The Department of Transport (DOT) continually strives to build a culture of inclusiveness. Our Disability Action Plan (DAP) is not a stand alone initiative. It forms an integral part of the Department's 'Diversity and Inclusion' strategy.

With this strategy, our aspirations are to create and foster a sustaining culture which recognises people for their unique contributions, their difference and their commitments both in and out of work without setting them apart form the rest of the workforce.

Key initiatives which are outlined in the DAP include:

  • provide viable career pathways for people with a disability including an ongoing commitment to the Victorian Government’s Career Start program for graduates with a disability
  • ensure all DOT workplaces, amenities and work environments are safe and accessible for all DOT people
  • ensure all DOT projects requiring public consultation specifically address the potential impact and needs of people with a disability and their carers
  • ensure a DOT internal and external communications take into account the specific needs of individuals with disabilities and are available in appropriate and preferred formats
  • the migration to a new Web Content Management System which will enable our internet and intranet sites to meet accessibility standards
