Engaging the Victorian Community charter
The transport portfolio is strengthening its approach to stakeholder and community engagement in order to deliver sustainable transport outcomes and empower Victorians to shape their own future.
We will strengthen the capacity of individuals, families, community and peak organisations, businesses, local, and state government to participate in shaping transport outcomes. This will help build a safer, fairer, greener and more connected transport system for all Victorians.
The Transport Integration Act 2010 requires us to take into account the interests of stakeholders and the community, and adopt appropriate processes for stakeholder engagement.
We will work within the scope of the policy, legislative and budgetary environment to achieve open and constructive engagement with the Victorian community.
We are dedicated to engaging with people at all levels of the community as appropriate to:
- deliver transport infrastructure which is valued by the community and is a focal point for activity
- achieve accessible and useable transport services, projects and infrastructure for transport users, stakeholders and communities
- assist in getting the best value from our investment in transport solutions
- contribute to a strong, vibrant and sustainable Victoria.
Guiding principles
We recognise that to attain improved transport outcomes, we need to work together to build a transport system that creates a more prosperous and connected community.
We will be guided by:

- being responsive – engaging with people early to maximise opportunities to shape transport outcomes
- enabling communities – giving confidence, skills and responsibility to communities to create better neighbourhoods and local transport services
- openness – providing a central point of contact for transport projects and facilitating ongoing opportunities for conversations
- collaboration – working with stakeholders and community groups in order to leverage the efforts of others
- transparency – providing timely information about decision-making processes and the benefi ts, and impacts, for stakeholders and communities
- inclusion – enabling a wide and diverse range of people to be involved.
