Environment policy

Through the commitment and involvement of its staff, the Department of Transport will maintain an environmental management system appropriate to the environmental impacts of its office-based activities from its CBD locations.

The department will strive for continual improvement in its environmental performance in the following areas:

  • energy use
  • water consumption
  • paper use
  • waste generation
  • transportation
  • purchasing

To achieve this, the department will commit to the following actions and practices:

  • adopt a pollution prevention approach to DOT office-based activities
  • comply with all relevant government policy and environmental legislation
  • embed environmental sustainability into departmental programs and projects, where possible
  • set objectives and targets so as to continually improve our environmental management and performance
  • monitor and review our environmental performance
  • undergo periodic environmental management system audits
  • promote this environmental policy and the environmental management system to department staff
  • communicate the department's environmental performance in its Annual Report.
