Review of the Marine Act 1988
The review of the Marine Act 1988 commenced in November 2008 and led to the Marine Safety Act 2010, which was passed by Parliament in September 2010. Consultation included information sessions and workshops.

Response to submissions
During the submission period, 401 submissions were received from 385 respondents. The majority of submissions (80 per cent) were from private individuals. The remainder of submissions came from a range of peak bodies, industry, fishing, boating, yachting clubs and others.
The department provided written responses to those that made submissions.
