Transport Ticketing Authority

Transport Ticketing Authority (TTA) was a state body responsible for the management of the new public transport ticketing system.

About Transport Ticketing Authority

Transport Ticketing Authority (TTA) was established in June 2003 to:

  • oversee Victoria's Metcard public transport ticketing system contract
  • procure and manage the myki ticketing system for Victoria.

Public Transport Victoria assumed responsibility for all functions delivered by TTA on 1 January 2013. On this day, the TTA was put into administration with former TTA Chief Executive Officer, Bernie Carolan, acting as the administrator.

The Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA) Act 2011, which set up Public Transport Victoria, was designed to start in stages. The third stage was that Public Transport Victoria would take over responsibility for all public transport ticketing functions, including myki.

On 19 December 2012, the third stage of the PTDA Act was proclaimed by Governor Alex Chernov and became law, and came into effect on 1 January 2013.
