Employment programs

The Department of Transport (DOT) provides several employment programs:

Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme (GRDS)
The Victorian Public Service Graduate Program is run by the State Services Authority. DOT actively participates in the GRDS, offering placements for graduates in disciplines such as Human Resources, Policy, Engineering, Public Affairs, Law, Accounting and Finance.
Rail Engineering Graduate Program (REGP)
Engineering graduates employed by DOT in this two-year program gain direct railway experience in a range of railway design, construction, maintenance and operating environments.
Engineering Vacation Work Program
DOT offers summer vacation employment of approximately 12 weeks to civil, electrical and mechanical engineering students.
Women in Transport Scholarship
The scholarship encourages women to develop their management skills and further their qualifications in transport-related fields. The successful applicant/s will receive $10,000 to put towards their studies.
Indigenous Employment Plan
DOT is committed to increasing Indigenous employment and its Indigenous Tertiary Scholarship and Indigenous Employment Plan aims to increase in the number of suitably qualified Indigenous staff in all areas and levels of the Department.
Disability Action Plan
The Disability Action Plan represents a commitment by DOT to ensure that discrimination on the grounds of disability is eliminated, as far as possible, from the programs and services which we deliver.
Youth Employment Scheme (YES)
The Youth Employment Scheme provides opportunities for young people (aged 15 to 24 years) to combine certificate-based learning and on the job experience. For information on traineeships within DOT, please contact the YES Coordinator on (03) 9655 6700.
