The Department of Transport coordinates Victoria's extensive public transport network. The management and development of train, tram and bus services is mainly the responsibility of the Department's Public Transport Division.

What's new in public transport

• Patronage on Melbourne's public transport network has hit a record high with 450.8 million passenger trips made in the past financial year. Read the Premier's media release.

• Changes to the rail timetable: In November 2008, the Government will deliver at least 95 new services on the metropolitan rail network.

• Two companies have been invited to bid for the tender to operate Melbourne's tram network.

• A community information session for the Laverton Rail Upgrade Project will be held on Wednesday 20 August 2008.
