The Boating Safety and Facilities Program offers grant-based funding opportunities across the following categories:

Aims

To assist with the development and upgrading of boating facilities including: boat ramps, jetties, trailer parking, minor access dredging, selected infrastructure, and boating development plans.

Aims

To encourage recreational boaters to participate in boating safety training courses to improve boater knowledge and safety on the waterways of Victoria.

Schools, community groups, fishing and boating groups, and local waterway authorities

Search and Rescue
Funding allocated in 2011-12
$400,000
Funding ratio

Up to 80 per cent of eligible project costs 100 per cent funding provided for SAR education and training.

Aims

To assist volunteer marine rescue groups to purchase rescue boats and other rescue equipment. Additionally, funding is available to provide volunteers with training opportunities and to aid search-and-rescue (SAR) organisations to ensure that their operators are appropriately trained and qualified to operate SAR vessels.

Open to
Dedicated SAR groups (recognised by Victoria Police), and community groups where no dedicated SAR organisation is located (registered with Victoria Police for these purposes).

Aids to Navigation
Funding allocated in 2011-12

Funding ratio

Up to 100 per cent of eligible equipment purchases or development of boating zone reviews boating safety guides. Installation cost is capped at 10% of infrastructure cost.

Aims

To assist with the provision of major and minor signage, buoyage, navigational aids, vessel traffic systems and boating zone reviews for all waterways (except State waters) throughout Victoria.

Open to

Waterway Managers, appointed under the Marine Act'1988 or Marine Safety Act 2010.
