The Boating Safety and Facilities Program offers grant-based funding opportunities across the following categories:

| Aims | To assist with the development and upgrading of boating facilities including: boat ramps, jetties, trailer parking, minor access dredging, selected infrastructure, and boating development plans.

| Funding ratio | Up to 80 per cent of eligible project costs

| Aims | To encourage recreational boaters to participate in boating safety training courses to improve boater knowledge and safety on the waterways of Victoria.

Funding category
| Search and Rescue
|
Funding allocated in 2011-12
| $400,000 |
| Funding ratio | Up to 80 per cent of eligible project costs 100 per cent funding provided for SAR education and training.

| Aims | To assist volunteer marine rescue groups to purchase rescue boats and other rescue equipment. Additionally, funding is available to provide volunteers with training opportunities and to aid search-and-rescue (SAR) organisations to ensure that their operators are appropriately trained and qualified to operate SAR vessels.

| Dedicated SAR groups (recognised by Victoria Police), and community groups where no dedicated SAR organisation is located (registered with Victoria Police for these purposes). |

|
Funding allocated in 2011-12
| $525,000 |
| Funding ratio | Up to 100 per cent of eligible equipment purchases or development of boating zone reviews boating safety guides. Installation cost is capped at 10% of infrastructure cost.

| Aims | To assist with the provision of major and minor signage, buoyage, navigational aids, vessel traffic systems and boating zone reviews for all waterways (except State waters) throughout Victoria.
