Safety and amenity
Because of the high population and activity levels typically found within the last- kilometre freight environment safety and amenity considerations have a high priority. Enforcement of such requirements generally rests with local council as well as the EPA, Victoria Police and Worksafe Victoria.
Ideally, freight delivery should occur outside peak congestion periods and be separated from pedestrians through use of designated freight routes - particularly for the transport of dangerous goods. Transport companies should also ensure that they have the necessary permits for the delivery route for that type of freight.
