You are here: a guide to developing pedestrian wayfinding (PDF, 744.6 KB, 20 pp.) has been produced to assist local and state government to deliver better pedestrian signage. By supporting people to walk easily between locations, communities can become safer, healthier and more vibrant.

The report Understanding the relationship between cyclists and drivers (PDF, 3.7 MB, 77 pp.) is the result of an investigation into emerging concerns around the ability of cyclists and drivers to share the road. The report found the potential conflict was not a significant issue in the Victorian context.

The department is using this report, in conjunction with VicRoads, to inform our thinking about the development of cycling facilities in future, and to inform investigations into issues around cyclist safety.

2010

The Pedestrian Access Strategy aimed to encourage more Victorians to walk, especially for short trips.

2009

The Victorian Cycling Strategy was a a policy document of the previous Victorian Government that aimed to establish cycling as a viable, sustainable, affordable and safe transport option.

Fourteen group discussions were held with Victorians who walk and cycle from a range of different walks of life. The Encouraging Walking And Cycling: Focus Group final report (PDF, 1.6 MB, 44 pp.) contains the findings of those focus groups.

The Walking and Cycling International Literature Review (PDF, 3.31 MB, 101 pp.) was commissioned in 2007 by the Department and made available for the purposes of promoting public discussion. The views expressed in the report are those of the authors, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Department of Transport.

2008

The Walking and Cycling: Census analysis (PDF, 6.1 MB, 52 pp.) profiles the walking and cycling populations in Victoria. The report also looks at changes in walking and cycling behaviour between 1996 and 2006.
