Over the last couple of years, the Victorian Government has introduced the following measures to improve the skills and knowledge of drivers so that passengers can benefit from good customer service and have access to
Expanded the Course in Taxi Driving to include a component on conflict resolution and a test of Melbourne's landmarks in addition to existing route knowledge requirements. All prospective taxi drivers will be required to undertake this course before gaining their driver accreditation.
Provided free conflict resolution and risk management workshops to all accredited taxi drivers to improve their skills in risk management and dealing with difficult passengers.
Issued taxi drivers with a taxi driver safety handbook with strategies for improving driver safety.
Undertook regular audits of the quality of taxi driver training delivery and ensuring that testing standards are rigorously enforced.
Established a Taxi Driver Advisory Group to seek feedback from industry participants.
