What's happening

The new North Melbourne Station is now open. Escalators and lifts are functioning, along with new passenger information displays, so people can quickly find out what platform they need, and get there quicker.

Project description

This project involved upgrading North Melbourne Station to help cater for the growing number of people using the station every day.

New features at the station include:
  • a new concourse extending over the city end of the station
  • lifts and escalators connecting the new concourse to all six platforms
  • new passenger information displays
  • new shelter areas for all six platforms
  • resurfaced platforms to improve safety and amenity
  • additional closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to improve safety and security.
Project benefits
  • The North Melbourne Station Upgrade is allowing commuters to board trains more quickly, easily and comfortably, particularly during peak times.
  • The new concourse is allowing passengers to change platforms from either end of the station and do so more quickly via lifts and escalators.
  • The station now complies with Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) standards, improving accessibility for people with or mobility problems or disabilities.
  • New CCTV cameras and resurfaced platforms have improved safety and security for the two million people who use North Melbourne Station each year.
