What's happening

Train services to Ballarat's second railway station at Wendouree started on Sunday 14 June 2009.

The station is well serviced with 11 daily services from Monday to Friday and 8 weekend services, providing a total of 63 weekly services. A downloadable timetable is available from V/Line.

The station officially opened on Friday 12 June 2009 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling of the official opening plaque by the Minister for Public Transport. Read the media release.

The community celebrated with a free sausage sizzle, giveaways and face painting. Also unveiled was the station mural created by students and parents from Yuille Park Community College and local artists 'Ratartat'.

Project description

The construction of the new Wendouree Station and connecting bus services will provide improved public transport options for the 90,000 residents of Ballarat and its surrounding regions.

The new station is about 100 metres west of the Gillies Street level crossing and includes:
  • a new station building with heating and air conditioning
  • a new platform
  • a 200 space car park
  • bus and taxi bays
  • bicycle racks and lockers.

Project benefits
  • The new station will provide an important economic boost to the Ballarat region by improving transport connections with the city's centre as well as Melbourne and Ararat.
  • The new station building is fully accessible with a ticket office, enclosed waiting area, heating and air conditioning, shelter and toilets.
  • Existing bus services have been re-routed to service Wendouree Station to provide a quality public transport option.
  • Wendouree Station will provide a good level of service for commuters including three morning peak services to Melbourne and two from Melbourne in the evening peak. The station will also be served by the six existing Ararat services.
